Malinche ascent and Camping

Ascent to Malinche and Camping

Located in the limits of Puebla and Tlaxcala States, “La Malinche” or “Malintzin” is the sixth tallest mountain in Mexico with a height of 4,450 meters. It was declared National Park on October 6th 1938, and it has an extension of 45,711 hectares. It is surrounded by woody vegetation and most part of the area is covered with coniferous woods, oaks, zacatonales, 6 species of pine and 120 of flower plants that gently decorate the path. There are over 100 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles, of which 16 are endemic of the neo-volcanic axis; the exotic teporingo is an example. La Cima, La Barranca de San Juan and Antiguo Cráter, that still holds prints from the glacial period, are some of the attractions.

    Alberto

“Its basically all about community. About sharing experiences to benefit a larger amount of people and the environment that provides for us. That’s what I learned on our Mixteca journey through Oaxaca. I came close to the people that live off the land and went home with a different and broader understanding of the region and its culture. Oh, and by the way, the views are jaw dropping.”

    Fernanda

“The hike to the Nevado de Toluca was perfect for me in more than 1 sense. A trip with deep nature connexion, self-awareness, anecdotes, laughter, effort, sighs, valuable silences, and of course, delicious food. I went out of my comfort zone with 10 strangers; as hours passed by, we became great companions. Thanks to Chance to Challenge for allowing everything to fall into place in this amazing way, for more experiences like this one!”

    Diego

“Spectacular, it was very unexpected. I envisioned a normal walk and it turned out to be a magnificent hike.”
